The appointment of Tucker Howland to be keeper of the Light house near Georgetown S.C. is approved

RC (DNA: RG 26, MLR); addressed: “The Secretary of the Treasury”; with Gallatin’s note on address sheet to John Brown, a clerk: “Please to give immediate information both to him & to the Superintt. A.G.”; endorsed by a clerk. Not recorded in SJL.

On 12 Mch., Gallatin signed letters to tucker howland and Daniel Stevens with news of the appointment. Howland was to take up his duties by the end of the month (Lb in DNA: RG 26, LL).
