John B. Colvin (ca. 1778–1826), newspaper editor and Republican supporter, edited the Baltimore Daily Advertiser (1800–01) before establishing the Republican Advocate in Frederick, Maryland (1802–06). In Washington he published Colvin’s Weekly Register (1808), succeeded by the Monitor, which folded in August 1809 due to lack of subscriptions. Thereafter Colvin worked as a clerk at the State Department (Brigham, American Newspapers description begins Clarence S.
