From John Jay to Philip Smith, 7 January 1817

To Philip Smith

[Bedford 7 Jany 1817]

Mr. Jay understanding ^presents his Compts. to Mr. Ph. Smith—^ Being informed that Mr. Ph Smith is authorized to recieve and give Certificates for Taxes on Carriages in this Town, ^Mr Jay^ subjoins a List of his Carriage being the same which he had the last Year; and sends by the Bearer the Amt. of the Taxes on them, as will appear from the Certificates he then recd. from Mr. Constant, an and which he also sends for Mr. Smiths Perusal—

1 Coachee on Steel Springs, which in 1807 cost 336 Dolrs. & with the Harness belonging to it may be worth 200—7
 
2— A Travelling Waggon without Springs— In 1794 it cost 125 Dolrs and may with the old Harness be worth 100—2
3 A Sulkey with wooden Springs, made above Y 30 Years ago— ^which^ with the Harness belonging to it it may be worth 50—1
4 A Gig on Steel Springs, which with the Harness may yet be worth what they cost viz 200—4
