From John Jay to Beverly Robinson, 18 February 1823

To Beverly Robinson

Bedford—18 Feby. 1823

Dear Sir

I have recd. your Letter of the 19th. ult—1 and should have answered it sooner, had not the State of my Health confined my Attention to such affairs as would not admit of Delay.

The Feeling which pervades your Letter, evinces that kind of Sensibility, which denotes the character and worth of the Heart; and it gives me pleasure to say, that its Impressions on mine are such as you wish them to be.—

Having never been indifferent to the Welfare of your Family, I am not a little gratified by your account of the comfortable Circumstances in which a kind Providence has placed them— Assure your amiable Lady2 that the Friendship of her Parents, which I always valued, that remained[?] is fresh in my Recollection; and that my Esteem and Regard for her excellent mother, remains undiminished— Permit me to add, that you and the members of your Family will always experience a welcome Reception here, from Dear Sir, your Friend & obt. Servt

Beverly Robinson Esqr.

C, NNC (EJ: 08792). Endorsed. Marked “Copy” in JJ’s hand.
