Sir,

Your Excellency’s three Letters of the 13th Inst. have been laid before Congress, & the two respecting a certain Expedition & Colonel Fleury are committed.

The Idea of an Interview prevails and there is reason to expect that this useful Measure will be adopted.

I have the Honor of transmitting the Inclosed Act of Congress of the 16th Inst.1 & am with the greatest Respect & Esteem, Your Excellencys most Obedt & Hble Servt

1. The enclosed act confirmed a court-martial’s decision to acquit Maj. Gen. Arthur St. Clair of neglect in the evacuation of Forts Ticonderoga and Independence in July 1777 (JCC description begins Worthington Chauncey Ford et al., eds. Journals of the Continental Congress, 1774-1789. 34 vols. Washington, D.C., 1904–37. description ends , 12:1225–26).
