From John Jay to Samuel Bayard, 5 March 1795

To Samuel Bayard

Royal Hotel—Pall Mall—5 March 1795

Dr. Sir

I was this Eveng favd. with your’s of to Day,1 enclosing a memorial presented to the Lords Commissioners on the 14th. Ult. and a proposed Letter to Mr. Falkener urging an answa to it—informing me that the Lords had not met since, but are to meet on Saturday next; & requesting my advice whether that Letter could with propriety be delivd. before the Lords have had an opportunity of giving an answer—

This is already Thursday— Mr. Falkener may in my opinion with propriety be requested, either by Letter or verbally, to remind the Lords tomorrow ^on Saturday^, of the memorial, & the Importance of an answr. to it— I presume nothing more was intended by the Letter, tho’ by its observing that no answer had yet been given, it seems to imply that the Lords have omitted to give one— The Letter may easily be altered so as to be free from that Implication, and from every appearance of Impropriety— Yours,

Saml. Bayard Esqr.

Dft, NNC (EJ: 12532; EJ: 12843). Endorsed.
