From Alexander Hamilton to Alexander J. Dallas, 9 October 1794

To Alexander J. Dallas

Carlisle [Pennsylvania] October 9, 1794. “I request that you will advance to Col Blaine1 the sum which you mentioned to me. If it can without inconvenience be extended to four thousand the accommodation will be the greater.”2

2On the back of this letter H wrote: “These letters explain the nature of an advance by Mr. Dallas as Pay Master of the Pensylvania Militia & which will constitute a charge against the UStates in favour of Pensa. & against the parties who received the money in favour of the U.S.” “These letters” is a reference to the letter to Dallas printed above and H to Ephraim Blaine, October 9, 1794.
