From Alexander Hamilton to Joseph Clay, 2 October 1789

To Joseph Clay

[New York, October 2, 1789. On December 30, 1789, Clay1 wrote to Hamilton: “I received your very obliging favour of the 2d Octr.” Letter not found.]

1. Clay was a Savannah merchant and planter who had served as paymaster general of the Continental Army in the Southern Department.
