The Secretary of War has the honor of proposing to the President of the United States, that, Hannibal Montisure Allen, be appointed a Cadet in the Corps of Engineers, and that John Doyle be appointed a Cadet in the Regiment of Artillerists.

On 14 Jan., Dearborn sent letters to Hannibal M. allen and John doyle informing them that the president had approved their appointments (FC in Lb in DNA: RG 107, LSMA). Allen was a son of Ethan Allen (John J. Duffy and others, eds., Ethan Allen and His Kin: Correspondence, 1772–1819, 2 vols. [Hanover, N.H., 1998], 1:253; 2:727).
