Mr. Coxe has the honor to inform Mr. Jefferson that pitch is certainly 11/ ⅌ 112℔ i.e. dutied to exclusion as a manufacture. Tar 11d. ⅌ barrl. and turpentine ⅔ ⅌ Cwt.

Mr. Remsen’s copy of Mr. Coxe’s very rough minutes, corrected, is enclosed, also the amount of fur duties in England equal to 15 and 20 ⅌ Ct. ad valorem at the medium prices.
Mr. Coxe will not fail to send the Return of Exports the Moment
Mr. Hamilton shall have done with it.

RC (DLC); undated and unrecorded in SJL, but evidently written just before Coxe transmitted the return of exports (see Coxe to TJ, 1 Feb. 1791). Enclosures not identified.

The return of exports may have been enclosed in the above, for TJ sent it back to Coxe in a (missing and unrecorded) note which the latter acknowledged in his of 1 Feb. 1791. The return covered the period 10 Aug. 1789 to 30 Sep. 1790 and is printed in ASP description begins American State Papers: Documents, Legislative and Executive, of the Congress of the United States, Washington, Gales & Seaton, 1832–61, 38 vols. description ends , Commerce, i, 23–34, as submitted by Hamilton to Congress on 15 Feb. 1791.
