American Commissioners to D’Aranda and Others

Passy, 22 Sep. 1784. These letters are virtually identical with the Commissioners’ letter to De Souza, 9 Sep. 1784, q.v. for variations in the text.

FC (DNA: PCC, No. 116); at head of text: “On the 22nd day of Septr. the following communication was made to His Excellency the Count d’Aranda Ambassador extraordinary & plenipotentiary from His Catholic Majesty the King of Spain at the Court of Versailles: viz.”; at foot of text: “At the same time Letters of the same tenor, chang[ing] only the style of the several Courts exactly in conformity to the expressions made use of in the original Commissions, were written to His Excellency Prince Bariatinski Minister plenipotentiary from Her Imperial Majesty of all the Russias at the Court of Versailles. Mr. Riviere Chargé des Affaires from the Elector of Saxony at the Court of Versailles. Mr. de Pio Chargé des Affairs from His Sicilian Majesty at the Court of Versailles. His Excellency the Count de Scarnafis Ambassador of the King of Sardinia at the Court of Versailles. His Excellency Monseignr. Prince Doria Pamphili Nuncio ordinary of the Pope at the Court of Versailles. His Excellency the Chevr. Delfino Ambassador from the Republic of Venice at the Court of Versailles. And to Mr. Favi, Chargé des Affaires from the Grand Duke of Tuscany, which Letter from a mistake in transcribing was not dated or sent until the 30th Sept.”
