Ver Planks Point 11th Augt 1780

Dear Genl

I send you a British Deserter from the fifty seventh Regt. I have also a Saylor deserted from the Row Galley while they landed at Tarry Town, but is so lame, he can scarce walk, he is an American born, and was taken Prisoner on board a Privateer from Boston. You are herewith furnished with a Copy of my Instructions.

Colo. Livingston with his Regt is for the present to take Post at Ver Planks and Stoney Point, and is to make Returns to Major Genl Arnold. The Signals of Alarm are, three Cannon will be fire’d here in Case five Topsails Vessels appear coming, up five Minutes after each other, four Cannon for Ten Vessels at the same Distance of time and so on if a greater Number appears.
