George Washington Papers

From George Washington to Meshech Weare, 26 July 1780

Head Quarters 26th July 1780

I have been honored with your favor of the 15th.

The particular and spirited exertions of the State of New-Hampshire to fulfil the objects which we have in view cannot but meet the warmest applause of every lover of their Country. It has mine in a very high degree, but not more than it has deserved.

I could wish the loan of powder to be forwarded as soon as practicable, to Springfield, and lodged there in the public magazine. With regard to the supplies of Cattle, the bearer of this, carries full instructions from the commissary of purchases for their disposal.

I have the honor to be with great respect, Sir Your most obt & hble servt
