Estate. Virginia Land Office Grant, 14 July 1780

July 14, 1780

Thomas Jefferson esqr Govr of the Commonwealth of Va to all to whome these presents shall come greeting Know ye that in Consideration of Military Services performed by George Washington Esqr according to the terms of the King of Great Brittains Proclamation of 1763 there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said George Washington And Andrew Lewis Esqrs a Certain tract or parcell of Land Containing 250 Acres by Survey bearing date this the 26th day of May 1775. lying & being in the County of GreenBryer on the East Side of the Great Konhawa River Including the Burning Springs & bounded as followeth to wit Beginning at two Red Oaks on a Noal by a Run, thence So. 65.Wt 100 poles to two Elms & Poplar on the river Bank & down the several Courses & Meanders thereof 450 poles to a Hoopwood Buck eye & Sugar tree thence leaving the River East 80 poles to a White Oak by the path thence So. 4 Wt 404 poles to the Beginning with its appurtenances to have & to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its [appurtenances] unto the said George Washington & Andrew Lewis and their Heirs forever In Witness wherof the said Thomas Jefferson Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia hath hereunto set his hand & caused the seal of the Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the 14th day of July in the year of Our Lord 1780 and of the Commonwealth the 5th.
