West point July 3d 1780.


In Consiquence of my helth being empair’d maks it impracticable for me to Remain in the Service any longer; otherwise I Should not have Solicited for a discharge at this present Junction—and agreable to Genl Orders I have Obtain’d & Inclos’d the Necessary Certificats with my Commission and would esteem it a Singular favour if your Excellency would grant me a discharge. I have the Honour to be your Excellencys Very Humble Servent
