George Washington Papers

From George Washington to Abraham Skinner, 27 April 1780

Head Quarters Morris Town 27th April 1780.

I have, at the intercession of the Govr. of this State, consented to the exchange of Captain Pitcairne a Continental prisoner of War for Capt. Fitzrandolph of the Jersey Militia. You will therefore be pleased to carry the exchange into execution as speedily as possible, and as the State will thereby become indebted to the Continent for an Officer of the Rank of a Captain, you will take occasion, whenever an opportunity offers, of procuring payment. I am &c.

G. Washington

P.S. Inclosed you have a passport for Capt. Pitcairne.
