To George Washington from Henry Knox, 6 April 1780

Morris Town 6th April 1780


Captain Stephen Buckland of Colonel Cranes battalion, being under the necessity of resigning his Commission, from the state of his private affairs. I take the liberty to recommend him, to your Excellency for an honorable discharge. I have the honor to be, Your Excellency’s, Obedient Servant.

P.S. The paymaster of the regiment being absent on duty at West-point, Capt. Buckland is unable to procure a certificate from him. But Capt. Lt Johnston the present Commanding officer of the regiment, has given a certificate, to settle all accounts which the paymster of the regiment may have against Captain Buckland.
