George Washington Papers

To George Washington from James McHenry, 22 July 1796

War office 22 July 1796.

I have received your letter of the 18th instant and its inclosures.

In the letter to Mr Blount of the 27th of Febry ulto he was authorized to communicate to the Cherokees that a visit from their influential chiefs would be permitted in autumn. I shall write to Col. Henley or McKee to inform them that their arrival in this City must be in November, as it will not be convenient for the President to see them earlier. With the greatest respect I have the honour to be Sir your most ob. St

James McHenry
