Tobias Lear to Thomas Jefferson
[Philadelphia] Feby 24th 1793
The enclosed letter came under cover to the President, and is by his direction transmitted to Mr Jefferson.1
The President sends likewise a letter from Mr Vall Travers to him, with a request that Mr Jefferson will peruse the same, and if it requires an acknowledgement that Mr Jefferson would give it to Mr Vall Travers.2

The letter from Rodolph Vall-Travers to David Rittenhouse, president of the American Philosophical Society, of 13 Dec. 1792, came enclosed in Vall-Travers’s letter to GW of 10 Dec. 1792 (see also John Conrad Zollickoffer to GW, 18 April 1793, and notes 1–2). Jefferson passed along the letter, including its enclosure regarding a new method of hemp manufacturing, to the American Philosophical Society (Jefferson Papers, description begins Julian P.
