1. Daniel Duval (c.1755–1795) of Henrico County, Va., served in a Henrico minute company in 1775 before being appointed an ensign in the 5th Virginia Regiment in February 1776. He subsequently served during 1777 as a captain in the 2d Georgia Regiment, which included men raised in Virginia. After a brief tenure as a brigade major, Duval became an aide-de-camp to Steuben and later held commands in the engineers and militia. John Berrien (c.1760–1815) was appointed a second lieutenant of the 1st Georgia Regiment in January 1776, gaining promotion to first lieutenant in November of that year and becoming a captain in May 1777. He served from 1776 to 1778 as an aide-de-camp to Brig. Gen. Lachlan McIntosh and was appointed brigade major of McIntosh’s brigade in January 1778. John McClure, who served as a captain in the Georgia militia, acted as a brigade major until May 1778 (see General Orders, 12 May).
