Guttae vitae was opium mixed with aromatics used to counteract nausea and to promote sweating.

Nahum Tate (1652–1715) and Nicholas Brady (1659–1726) published in London in 1696 A New Version of the Psalms of David, Fitted to the Tunes Used in Churches. This metrical version of the Psalms went through many editions. By the mid-eighteenth century it had been published in combination with numerous versions of the Book of Common Prayer.

Richard Burn’s Justice of the Peace and Parish Officer, 4 vols., published in London in 1770, was in GW’s library at his death.

The Art of Cookery Made Plain and Easy. By a Lady, by Hannah Glasse was first published in 1747 and went through more than twenty editions.

A fleam was a kind of lancet used in bleeding horses.

This may be Advice to the People in General with Regard to their Health by Samuel Auguste André David Tissot (1728–1797). The first English translation was published in London in 1765. Some of the numerous later editions were printed with variations in the titles. The Virginia Almanack for both 1768 and 1769, in which GW wrote his diaries for those years, contain excerpts from Tissot’s Advice to the People (DLC:GW).
