Saturday 16th. Exercised in the Coach with Mrs. Washington & the two Children abt. 12 Oclock.

Sent the Report of the Post Master Genl. relative to the necessary changes in that Office to the Secretary of the Treasury that it may be laid before Congress—or such parts thereof as may be necessary for their Information.

The report of Postmaster General Samuel Osgood was probably a draft of Osgood’s report on the state of the Post Office Department, including his suggestions for improvement of services and revenues. The final version was sent to Hamilton by Osgood, 20 Jan. 1790, and is in ASP, Post Office, description begins Walter Lowrie et al., eds. American State Papers. Documents, Legislative and Executive, of the Congress of the United States. 38 vols. Washington, D.C., Gales and Seaton, 1832–61. description ends 5–7. The secretary of the treasury sent the report to the House of Representatives on 22 Jan. 1790 (DE PAUW description begins Linda Grant De Pauw et al., eds.
