On this day the delegates to Congress met at City Tavern. The credentials of the various members were read, and Peyton Randolph of Virginia was elected chairman, or president, and Charles Thomson of Pennsylvania secretary. GW rarely mentions in his diaries anything concerning his presence in Congress, but he seems to have attended the sessions regularly.
