[Diary entry: 1 May 1773]

May 1st. Went to the different Fishing Landings on both sides the River as high as broad Creek & found that few Fish had been catchd.

This was a bad year for the herring and shad fisheries. The catch during May was much smaller than that of 1772 or 1774 (General Ledger B description begins General Ledger B, 1772–1793. Broad Creek enters the Potomac in Prince George’s County, Md., four miles above Piscataway Creek.
