[Diary entry: 20 July 1770]

20. Was riding out to the Mill &ca. met an Augusta Man with Horses with whom I returnd & purchasd four.

In GW’s ledger entry for this date, he records purchasing horses from two men: David McCrae, two horses for £21 4s., and Samuel McChesney, two horses for £13 10s. (ledger a description begins Manuscript Ledger Book 1, 1750-72, in George Washington Papers, Library of Congress. description ends , 319). McChesney was a trader in Augusta County about this time (Va. Gaz., Pi, 9 Feb. 1775).
