I have received your letter of the 14th. enquiring whether it was intended to give you the power of appointing Agents under you in the other Islands under the Government of Lord Levington. This it will be competent to you to do: provided you assume the responsibility of their conduct upon yourself and that you limit them, in their official spheres, to the extent of the Agency assigned to you, in respect to seamen and captures. They will of course correspond with you and not with this Department except in special cases whose nature may require it. I have the honor &c
