§ From J. W. Schmidt. 7 February 1814, New York. “I have the honour to transmit to your Excellency a letter, which my friend the Chevalier de Wiebeking entrusted to my care on my late tour thro. Germany, and beg to be favoured with your Excellency’s commands, in what manner to forward the books & prints which accompanied that letter.”1
