§ From John Armstrong. 3 February 1814, War Department. “I have the honor to lay before you a list of appointments which have been made in the Army of the United States during the Recess of the Senate.”

The enclosure (7 pp.; printed in included two hundred and fifty-one appointments in the Corps of Engineers, dragoons, artillery, infantry, Regiment of Riflemen, Sea Fencibles, and Rangers. JM forwarded the list to the Senate in a message dated 16 Feb. 1814, together with Armstrong’s second letter of 3 Feb. and one of 10 Feb. 1814 (ibid., 2:475, 480, 492).
