5 December 1809. Petition requests the appointment of a brigadier general of militia for the Mississippi Territory. Asks that JM name an officer “with as little delay as is consistent with attention to objects of more pressing importance.”

Enclosed in Ferdinand L. Claiborne to Robert Smith, 25 Nov. 1809, and David Holmes to secretary of war, 6 Dec. 1809 (which recommended Claiborne for the appointment).
