§ From John Randolph
Ca. 18 February 1803, House of Representatives. “There is a report in circulation here that 4000 french troops have arrived at N. Orleans. Any authentic information which your department may have been [sic] received will be very acceptable to many members of this house.”
RC (ViU). 1 p. Dated “friday noon”; conjectural date assigned here on the basis of a 6 Jan. 1803 report from Natchez that “two thousand French troops have landed within a few day[s]” (National Intelligencer, 21 Feb. 1803).
