RC (DNA: RG 59, NFL, France, vol. 1). 1 p. Undated; date assigned here on the basis of information in n. 1.
1. Pichon probably referred to Levi Lincoln to JM, 25 June 1802 ( , 3:337–39), in which Lincoln stated that it was JM’s decision whether the government was responsible for the payment of the second half of the funds owing to the owners of the captured French ship Peggy. The first Tuesday following 25 June 1802 was 29 June. For the letters exchanged among JM, Pichon, Albert Gallatin, and Lincoln in the summer of 1802 concerning the Peggy, see ibid., 3:295, 305, 313–17, 396, 399–400, 437–38.
