21 May 1801, Alexandria. Remarks that, while in Washington the day before, he heard of possible changes of clerks in War Department. Not knowing General Dearborn, Kerr prevailed on his friend John Beckley to deliver notes from him to Dearborn and Gallatin. Requests JM’s help in securing clerkship: “It is on your support that I entirely depend.”
