Richmond March 27. 1819

Dear Sir

The Bearer Mr Russell Dudly to desirous of offering proposals for performing a part as the whole of the Carpenters work of the University—he is the person who executed all the Carpenter’s work at the Union Hotel, which was performed in a shorter period of time than the same amount of work was even before done in Virginia—he is very industrious, sober & capable of [. . .]eting & judiciously directing the labor of any number of workmen—Mr Dudly is also associated in any offers which he may make with Mr Otis Manson, who is an Architect of the first order & has designed & executed most of the most elegant buildings in the lower part of our City; He is moreover a man of excellent character.

Considering both these persons as possessing very strong claims to public patronage, I take the liberty to solicit your aid in procuring employment for them with your Proctor
