The “br.” in Dufief’s invoice entry for the works of Claude Adrien helvétius is for broché, meaning paperbound. TJ had the volumes bound in calf leather (Sowerby, description begins E. Millicent Sowerby, comp., Catalogue of the Library of Thomas Jefferson, Washington, D.C., 1952-59, 5 vols. description ends No. 1242; Statement of Account with John March, 10 July).
