Following his appointment as cadet, JOHN LIVINGSTON reported to the military academy at West Point, New York. In April 1803, he was made a second lieutenant in the Regiment of Artillerists and sent to Fort Nelson, near Norfolk, Virginia (Heitman, Dictionary description begins Francis B.
