The Secretary at War has prepared an estimate of expenditures for the army of the US. during the year 1802. conformably to the act fixing the military peace establishment; which estimate, with his letter accompanying and explaining it, I now transmit to both houses of Congress.

Meriwether Lewis delivered the message and ESTIMATE to the House and the Senate on 30 Mch. The House referred the papers to the Committee of Ways and Means. The Senate ordered the message and estimate to lie on the table for consideration (JHR description begins Journal of the House of Representatives of the United States, Washington, D.C., 1826, 9 vols. description ends , 4:168; JS description begins Journal of the Senate of the United States, Washington, D.C., 1820–21, 5 vols. description ends , 3:200).
