Boston, 14 Aug. 1788. His “amiable young friend Mr. Hays leaves this town in a few days for France where he means to compleat his knowledge in the french language and acquaint himself with the mode of doing business in that nation.” He will pay his respects, and TJ’s “countenance will essentially serve a youth of real merit.”
