L’Orient, 21 Jan. 1788. Sent TJ a package of china by the diligence on 17 Jan. for which he drew for 228.livre tournois 2, at one day’s sight on TJ, payable to Dussault, from whom the china was bought.

RC (DLC); 1 p.; endorsed. Although not mentioned in the letter, there may have been enclosed in it a MS (DLC) entitled: “Note des Porcelaines expédiées le 17 Janvier 1788 en une Caisse pour partir par la messagerie du 21 à l’adresse de Monsieur Jefferson,” dated 17 Jan. 1788 and listing the china (“2 Douzaines, d’Assiettes en Couleur … 2 Soupières, pre[miè]re grandeur … 8 Plats longs, 5me. grandeur … 4 Douzaines, d’Assiettes à Dessert …”) and its total cost. The cancelled draft for 228.livre tournois 2, endorsed by J. Dussault, is also in DLC. Another sight draft by Macarty on TJ for 202 livres 4 sols, dated 20 Jan. 1787, is also in DLC and bears this notation by TJ: “paid to Mr. McCarty himself June 20. 1787.”
