I enclose you a copy of a letter, and request you will give such order respecting the matter of it, as you may think proper

(LS, Hamilton Papers, Library of Congress). On the cover H’s instructions read: "Examine of what Regiment Lt. Alexander is & send the application, to the Col observing that if the fact be true the general regulation requires the discharge."
