The absence of the Honorable Roger Sherman our Mayor necessitated the measure of presenting you the freedom of this City Authenticated by our Senior Alderman—Having had an opportunity to communicate with Mr: Sherman, I now do myself the honour to enclose you a Diploma authenticated according to the usages of this City, under the signature of our Mayor, City Clerk, and the seal of the City—
The Honour of expressing the very great Respect, with which they regard your Character, and the sincere affection which they have for your Person accuated them to enroll your name in the Registry of their Citizens—they hope that this step may meet with your approbation—I have the honour / to be, with very great Respect, your Excellency’s / most obedient, and very huml.
