Philada. Apl, 14. 1789

Dear Sir,

My Friend Mr. Sharp Delany goes to New York for the Purpose of obtaining the Appointment of Collector of this Port. Our Senators will inform you of his Character & Pretensions. I wish to introduce him to your favorable Notice & as it is an Appointment for the State his being well with both the Government & Citizens will accelerate the Execution of any Measures he may be employed in executing. Altho connected, (by Marriage) with this Gentleman, I would not suffer myself to Tresspass on your Time or Attention did I not firmly believe that both the Experience he has gained in the Office of Collector & his good Character both as an early active Whig & a good Federal Man entitled him to the good Opinion of those who administer our general Government.

I am with very sincere & respectful Esteem / Your Obed Servt

Richard Peters
