From John Adams to Sir Clement Cotterell Dormer, 4 February 1788

The American Minister presents his Compliments to Sir Clement Cotterell Dormer & as he is to have the Honor of an Audience of the King on the 20th. of this Month, in order to take leave of His Majesty, requests Sir Clement that he would apply to Lord Ailsbury, as Chamberlain, to Communicate to the Queen, The American Ministers desire to have an Audience of Her Majesty, in order to take leave, & to receive Her Majesty’s Pleasure concerning the time, when it may be convenient to Her Majesty to admit him to such an Audience—
