Amsterdam 9 Nov: 1787


His Excelly. Jefferson Esqr. has applyed to us, to honor his drafts monthly for abt. 5000 £ and advised, that your Excelly should authorize us, if we desired it, and he has alreddy drawn [. . .] ƒ5492.14 whch: we in consequence have payed & accepted, since we have not the least orders from the Board of Treasury, & the Sum can amount in Course to Something considerable, we pray your Excelly, to give us directions for our responsability in this respect to the board of Treasury.
