Charleston South Carolina 12th July 1787
Since writing the Letter I had the honor of addressing to your Excellency on the 10th. I was surprixed to see Copies of the letters from your Portsmouth Correspondents inserted in one of our daily Prints, and even the names of both of them published, altho I was ‘till then ignorant of that of the Reverend Mr Wrens, his name not having been inserted in the copy I received from your Excellency.
I therefore, Sir, take the liberty of giving you this information that if the Copies printed here have been improperly obtained from your Office, you may take such measures as you may judge the circumstance to require.
I have the honor to be with the utmost Respect your Excellency’s / Most obedient humble Servant
MHi: Adams Papers.
