Letter not found: from David Forman, 18 Jan. 1790. On 21 Jan. GW wrote to Forman “Acknowledging the receipt of your letters of the 3rd and 18th instant.”1

1Tobias Lear transmitted this letter to John Jay: “By the Command of the President of the United States, I do myself the honor to enclose a letter from Genl Forman dated the 18th inst. upon the subject of those counterfeit Certificates which were contained in Genl Forman’s letter of the 3d inst. to the President of the United States which was transmitted by the Presidents order to you, and by you handed to the Governor of the State of New York.

“As the former letter passed through your hands, the President has directed this to be put into the same channel” (Lear to Jay, 20 Feb., DNA: RG Miscellaneous Letters).
