1Zacheus Dunnell (Donnell; 1749–1789) of Boston served from June to December 1775 as a sergeant in Col. William Gridley’s Massachusetts Artillery Regiment before being appointed a second lieutenant in the 3rd Continental Artillery Regiment in January 1777. He apparently rose to the rank of first lieutenant before his resignation. No letter from Dunnell to GW has been identified.
