§ From Jacques Roux-Bordier1
1 February 1805, Lyon. The person to whom Mr. Adet had given the enclosed letter of recommendation,2 having been detained in Europe first by business, then by illness, has decided to forward it directly to JM. He presumes that this letter might contain things that would not admit of a longer delay, and if he goes to the United States he will have the honor of being the bearer of other letters for JM.

, 6:421; date assigned here based on a note on the verso of the letter that it was forwarded at Bordeaux on 12 Germinal an 13 (2 Apr. 1805). Unsigned; correspondent assigned on the basis of Pierre-1. Jacques Roux-Bordier (1773–1822) was an amateur Swiss botanist and student of literature and German philosophy who was a member of the literary and scientific circle at Lyon that included André-Marie Ampère. He committed suicide in 1822 (James R. Hofmann, André-Marie Ampère [Cambridge, England, 1995], 90–91).
